DEMONIC ATTACKS ON ALYNN PIKE LEAD TO DEEPER QUESTIONS

By Rev. Ted Pike
9 Jan 12
With widespread reading of my article “Ted Pike: My Wife Died a Martyr to God and Freedom,” experts on the paranormal indicate that the six-year demonic attack on my wife is unprecedented. It revealed an audacity, creativity and, ultimately, murderous intent that makes it a case that stands alone. But I did not share the details of my wife’s death simply to add to knowledge of the paranormal.

Alynn and I observed that demons, almost like small children before visiting adults, clearly enjoy performing “parlor tricks” to get our attention. They like to be gawked at, marveled over, even scientifically studied. They do not like humans to look past their sideshow and seriously ask, “Where do they come from?”  This question leads to the Bible. Humanism’s vanity that “evil is absence of good” can’t explain such malevolent beings. Eastern pantheism's "explanation" that demons are the degradation of the "god" that is us and inhabits all things is preposterous. But the Bible does explain evil, both in the paranormal and in the human heart. It points man straight toward the Creator of all things in heaven and earth, Jesus Christ.

Demons communicated much to us, but we did not flatter them either by asking them many questions or recording their thousands of manifestations. We knew they were manipulators who wanted to deceive us. Certainly, systematic analysis of paranormal activity, its frequency, characteristics, etc., is a legitimate study, even perhaps a science.  However, if investigators of the paranormal believe that statements from demons are true or that paranormal phenomena describe a bona fide reality, they are building their "science" on quicksand.  Demons can tell the truth and I believe did so several times to us (Pitcaw said his real enemy was the Almighty) yet are committed to deception. I also believe they allow themselves to be exorcised to give credibility to false religious groups.

Truth about Demons
Scripture indicates all angels were created by Christ as sinless, free-will beings of stupendous design, creative empowerment and intelligence. At some primordial moment, one of the most preeminent, Lucifer, coveted God’s throne and desired to murder God Himself (John 8:44). Ezekiel 28:12-16 clearly describes Lucifer,
You had the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God: Every precious stone was your covering…You were the anointed cherub who covers; and I placed you there. You were on the holy mountain of God; you walked in the midst of the stones of fire. You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created until unrighteousness was found in you…Therefore I have cast you as profane from the mountain of God.
Isaiah 14:12, from the King James Version, says,
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!  For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High. Yet thou shall be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
Demons can never cease to exist; they are condemned to be eternal. Like humans, they were made in God’s spiritual image, able to make choices that would affect them for eternity.  Having rebelled against transcendent truth and light, they are unable to repent and will eventually inhabit the lake of fire along with human souls who also reject God.

The awesome power of demons to rearrange physical reality is not their greatest fascination.  Their greatest desire is to influence human beings to become like them, and they are driven to take as many souls as possible with them to hell. They are the ultimate example of misery loving company.  Meanwhile, God and the angels labor ceaselessly to convince us to become righteous, loving and merciful so that we may forever live with a holy God.

Thus, the Bible provides a relatively simple explanation not only for all the strange phenomena swirling around Alynn and me over the past six years but also for the primary motivation of demons in this world.  They tirelessly attempt to distract man from the true meaning of life.  They don't want us to accept the testimony of design in creation and of our conscience that God exists.  They want us to ignore the scriptural claim that Jesus is God, Who died that we might be reconciled to the Father. The demons would like nothing more than for us to consider Christ merely a great teacher.

Finding Our Real Purpose of Life
For most people, reluctance to follow Christ does not primarily concern intellectual problems with the Trinity, hell, or difficult stories in the Old Testament. Rather, it is the loathsome loss of personal control. Reconciliation with Christ means giving Him total control over our existence. He becomes our focus and guidance system in all things. The idol of self must be toppled and broken in pieces. To the human nature, such self-denial and immolation in Christ is frightening. It appears to mean loss of all identity and pleasure in life.

Exactly the opposite is true. When a free will spirit dies to itself and becomes one with the will of the Great Lover of our souls, the One Who created our eternal spirit, newness of life springs forth. Yet it does bring opposition from evil (John 16:33).

From what does Jesus deliver us?  Is it from demonic powers to harass and afflict or even, as in Alynn’s case, to kill? Not necessarily.  As long as we trust in Him, Jesus provides complete safety for our eternal souls, as Scripture says “no created thing [demon] will be able to separate us [our souls] from the love of God…” (Romans 8:39) Whatever feats of creativity the demons can perform, Jesus can do infinitely more. But His noblest expression of power is His love for the sinner in need of a Savior.

If we do not set aside our pride and resistance to God, we have learned nothing from the encounter Alynn and I had with demons.   Indeed, we are on our way to becoming like them.  That may include becoming monstrously evil.  But, much more likely, our rebellion will manifest in delusions of wisdom, innate goodness, and moral sufficiency, as in Lucifer's ascent to the throne of God.  Like him, we will rise to "be like God," affirming that we have equal or more power to redeem ourselves as does Christ.  We will live in self-satisfaction, without any necessity of being loyal to Him, worship Him, or honor His sacrifice at Calvary, the only divinely endorsed means of salvation.  Thus, as with Lucifer, iniquity will be found in us.  We also "will go down to hell, to the sides of the pit."

If you haven't given your life to Jesus, you are risking your eternal soul by merely contemplating demons.  You have already been massively manipulated by them.  Instead, consider beginning a conversation with your Creator and becoming His eternal friend. Just talk to Jesus and say, “Lord, I ask you to forgive my sins and deliver me from the power of evil in my life. I thank you for dying for me that I might live with You forever. I turn my life over to You entirely and turn my back to sin and the devil. Amen.”  If Christ can create the universe out of nothing, surely He can hear and respond to that simple plea for salvation.
Jesus has promised that if we come to Him with the sincerity of a little child He will not cast us out. (John 6:37)  In fact, He says that spiritually speaking He will come and have supper with us! (Rev. 3:20)  He has promised also that His Holy Spirit, the Comforter, will lead us into all truth, confirming in our hearts that we are now God's child.

When we give all to Christ, at last the vanity and games of life are over.  We have become the friend of the One Who created us to live with Him forever -- the whole reason we came into the world.
